The latest addition to my website is Alexis Stamatis‘ :Μπαρ Φλωμπέρ (Bar Flaubert). Our hero is Yannis Loukas. His father is a famous novelist but he, while publishing stories, is now, almost forty, in a rut, both professionally and romatically. While helping his father with his autobiography he comes across a manuscript written by one Loukas Matthaiou, sent to his father for his approval. The father is damining about the novel but Yannis is very impressed and later finds the man seems to have disappeared. With his life going nowhere, he sets out on a quest to find the man, a quest which takes him to Barcelona, Florence, Berlin and a remote part of Greece. He learns of stolen Picassos, is shot at, informants are murdered and he has a host of adventures, gradually realising that the book offers numerous clues to Loukas’ travels and ultimate destination. It is a very clever and fascinating mystery/quest with a host of surprises for the reader and Yannis.
