The latest addition to my website is Felix Nesi‘s Orang orang Oetimu (People from Oetimu). Oetimu is a village in West Timor, part of Indonesia. The background is the volatile history – Dutch/Portuguese, Japanese occupation and Indonesia vs East Timor whihch has seemingly settled down but, in practice has not. We follow a host of colourful tales of people associated with the village, some natives, other incomers. There is violence, there is a lot of sex, there is football and struggles by various people to get their life sorted out, which all too often does not work out. For many there is not an easy way as they face violence, corruption and poverty. Nesi tells an excellent series of intermingled tales, full of local colour, action and did I mention sex?
