The latest addition to my website is Sylvain Trudel‘s Le Souffle de l’harmattan (The Harmattan Winds). Set in Quebec, our hero Hugues is a foundling, unsure of his origins, except he seems to have almond eyes. He is influenced by the poems of a deceased and fictitious poet called Desuet and a fellow orphan, Habeke Axoum, a boy of Ethiopian origin adopted by a Canadian couple. As fellow outcasts, they become very close and indulge in a series of initially naive (cycling to Africa) and then foolhardy/risky/illegal adventures (kidnapping a girl with cancer to cure her themselves). Each adventure is more foolhardy than the last and gets them into trouble though they feel they are both helping people and/or getting closer to their roots. Of course it cannot end well.
